required to edge notch the central rib of 3mm thickness. This was a particularly difficult application because the mandrel die has to be inserted into the tube for ‘reverse’ punching and the punch has a stub toe,
which leaves the scrap on the mandrel die. This is then blown off by a jet of air programmed into the controller of the machine cycle.

Below: This is an example of mandrel punching where the mandrel is removable. The copper tubular component is slid onto the mandrel and then the whole is inserted into the tool body which
contains the punches. The scraps from the punching operation are contained in the mandrell. When the mandrel is withdrawn, the punched component can be removed and the scraps removed by tapping the mandrel on the
bed.
